Self awareness brings understanding, compassion and the building blocks for a better future.
Verity means truth. And I suppose this is what I'm on a continual quest to find. I have been fascinated by human behaviour for as long as I can remember. I loved studying psychology at college and university and went on to teach psychology at A-Level for a number of years before returning to college to train to become a counsellor. I love learning about all the things that influence our thoughts, feelings and behaviours and how we change and grow as people.
As a counsellor, clients comment that I am warm, kind and accepting. I use my understanding of Transactional Analysis and other psychological approaches, including the psychodynamic approach and CBT, to inform the way I work with clients. I am a trauma-informed counsellor, which means I place a great value on working at my clients' pace, trusting their instincts and listening to their bodies. I love working creatively so that we don't always have to rely on words to do the talking.
I continue to teach today. I have taught counselling Level 2 and Level 3 to adults and young people. Teaching continues to be a real passion for me. I enjoy facilitating others as they come to find what feels true for them and to become skilled and empathic listeners.
I also deliver workshops and training to schools, colleges and workplaces on lots of topics, including enhanced communication, attachment, the mind-body connection and managing stress.
I'm a passionate ally of the LGBTQ+ community and all marginalised groups. I consider power and context in all my work and am aware of my privilege in this world. I work to shine a light on inequality and lift up all those around me.
